Carrier training before a vet visit

Most carrier battles start because the carrier only appears on vet day. Make it furniture first.

Carrier training before a vet visit

Leave it out

A week before the visit, set the carrier in the living room with the door open and a familiar blanket inside. Drop treats in it now and then.

Choose the right door

A side door lets the cat walk in on its own; a top opening means lifting and lowering, which most cats resist.

On the day

Close the door calmly, cover the carrier with a light towel and keep it level on the way to the car.
